“Scaled,” a new series from Animal Planet that focuses on captive reptiles and the custom enclosures that they live in, will debut August 24 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The show stars shop owner Greg West, his wife and creative designer, Elaine, and their team at Cornel’s World, as they consult with clients so they can design and build out custom habitats for their clients’ scaly babies. The show’s focus is to showcase how habitat designers can create and build the best enclosures for the well-being of these cold-blooded animals.

The series follows West and his team of habitat designers, master builders, reptile nerds, and Kevin, a three-legged bearded dragon and shop mascot, as they consult with their clients and build enclosures (complete with water misters, drainage tubes, reptile hides, and vegetation) that fit the needs of their pet reptiles.

The season premiere features the team building an enclosure based on a Mayan temple theme for a community of dart frogs. They create a natural jungle-like environment complete with a fully functioning bio-active ecosystem within the enclosure. Episodes following the premiere will showcase the team as they build a variety of theme-based fully functioning terrariums, including a post-apocalyptic dinosaur wasteland-themed enclosure, to an enclosure that is inspired by the movie Avatar, to one a princess would love. Viewers of the show will also get a look at a variety of reptiles with tips on how to care for them, including a basilisk lizard, Asian vine snake, monkey-tailed skink, and a variety of ball pythons, boa constrictors, and more.

Scaled premieres August 24 at 9 pm ET/PT on Animal Planet.
