TCU Unveils New Horned Frog Statue
A snake sculpture made of colorful tiles that was built in 2005 by youths in Tucson, Arizona's juvenile court system was destroyed by vandals and the city wants to rebuild the sculpture. According to Tucson News 4, the city is trying to find funds to repair and preserve the artwork, which sits atop a center median at the intersection of Tanque Verde and Wrightstown in the city.
"I think it is a symbol of collaboration with youth in the community," Paul Cunningham, current Ward 2 councilman told News 4 Tucson. "I think it is a symbol of volunteering in the community. I also think it is a great piece of public art."
The city is trying to hire at-risk youth in the city to rebuild the sculpture but they currently don’t have enough funds. The city is seeking about $10,000 to rebuild the snake, with the majority of that money going to purchase liability insurance due to the city’s desire to hire at risk youth to work on a city median.
