Tony the tegu is looking for a new keeper in the San Francisco Bay area.
If you live in the San Francisco Bay area, and have experience caring for tegus, the Peninsula Humane Society and SPCA is looking to place a 2-foot long Argentine black and white tegu (Tupinambis merianae). The large, 6-pound lizard was surrendered by his owner, who is unable to care for the reptile.

Tony the tegu is up for adoption in the San Francisco Bay area.
The tegu is named Tony and is 5 years old. He has been well cared for and is very social, according to the PHS. Tony prefers a home without other pets in the household and the group prefers that his new keeper is experienced with keeping large reptiles. He must be kept indoors but also needs access to the sun, a soaking pool and an area that is large enough for him to exercise and be mentally stimulated, the PHS said. The PHS says that his enclosure must be a minimum of 6 feet in length, 2 feet wide and 3 to 4 feet tall. A heating element and a misting device is also required. Tony currently eats fruit, bugs, fish, eggs, ground turkey, chicken and beef liver. The adoption fee for Tony is $100.
