The frog was discovered in the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve.
Researcher with Gubbi Labs and ATREE (Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment) in India have discovered a new species of bush frog in the Western Ghats in the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Tiger Reserve. The frog, Raorchestes honnametti or Honnametti bush frog closely resembles another species of frog, the Seshachar’s bush frog (Raorchestes charius), but was confirmed a new species by molecular and acoustic analysis.
The frog was further confirmed a new species by DNA analysis as well as its call pattern, which was distinct from that of the Seshachar’s bush frog.
The frog is a light beige in coloration with distinct dark stripe running across its cheek and through its eyes.
