“Most large species of lizard require specific lighting temperatures and humidity that is not suitably attained by wandering around a house that is simply kept warm for it. I’ve known quite a few first time monitor owners who “”caged”” similarly and had animals die on them.
While I’m not advocating permanent containment (I let my larger lizards out all the time, one even has a dog bed he prefers to sleep in at the foot of my bed every night) you can’t expect an animal to be healthy if you aren’t providing for its environmental needs properly. If you’re going to buy something that’s going to grow to be 3-4 feet long, you need to prepare for it properly… From infancy to adulthood.

Then why don’t you just let it roam around your house like a dog?
