I recently got two leopard frogs, and housed them in the same aquarium, with a half-land and half-water environment. It’s been less than a week with my frogs, and this morning when I went to feed them, one was dead. Today was the day that I was going to first change the water, and it’s been in there for one week now. I was wondering if there was any explanation as to why it died? Yesterday it seemed to be just fine, it was eating normally and was active. However, I feel that it could have died from stress, for when it was first introduced to the habitat, it seemed overly active, and was spooked by even the slightest of movement. If I could get a quick response to this to prevent the other from dying as well, that’d be great!

I teach 2nd grade and we raised and observed a tadpole growing into a frog. It was so cool! Our guy just lost his tail and is a full on frog now, so his habitat was upgraded to a large tank today. As a owner of dogs and cats I need all the help I can get raising this little amphibian in my classroom! Appreciate the help from this article 🙂

I truly applaud you for being such an advocate for frogs & especially for a member of the Ranidae (“true frog” as you inevitably know) community! While it seems so mainstream in the hobby to maintain n exotic species (which I am by NO means criticizing as I have myself) I LOVE whenever I witness someone (other than myself that is) who shares such a love for these more commonplace but equivalently majestic & astounding species that are entirely underrated & warrant soo much more attention than they obtain presently!! It is your passion for these Rana pipiens of all subspecies both Nothern & Southern as I would assume Plains as well if available truly personifies the passion for this hobby!! & I love that in addition to maintaining them on a personal level you have gone that step further to share that passion with other individuals, by which you are irefutably fostering a passion or at the least an appreciation of all frog species & the phenomena of nature as a whole! Keep it up! The world would be a different place if there were more individuals such as yourself, willing to promote their passion for nature & convey how we as human beings must learn how to coexist in with it with the least sense of ignorance possible!

I’m lucky, I have a creek like, right by my house and it’s full of northern leopard frogs and tadpoles. But the frogs are about one inch big, at the most.

I think your idea about a outside enclosure is cool, I have two frogs but would like to get more, then I don’t have to buy another aquarium.

My roommate recently moved out and I opted to keep her two frogs, but I’m not really experienced with anything that’s not a dog. This is so helpful!

Just caught a northern at work today, they are very interesting to watch. As much as I’d love to keep it i think I’ll release him were he belongs. Already have a northern gray tree frog to care for 🙂
