A monitor lizard that escaped from its enclosure two weeks ago in Webster, MA has been captured with the assistance of the Massachusetts Environmental Police, Webster Police Department Massachusetts, and Douglas Police Department.
The water monitor was apparently kept without a proper permit and went missing two weeks ago. The lizard, named Goose, will now spend his days with Rainforest Reptile Shows, where he will receive the care that he needs and deserves as a former pet.
“We’re happy to announce that Goose, the elusive water monitor from Webster, MA has been safely captured, Rainforest Reptile Shows wrote on Facebook. “Goose will now begin a new chapter at RRS Oasis, our nonprofit animal sanctuary, where he will receive expert care and a specially designed permanent habitat. We also want to extend our deep appreciation to the Massachusetts Environmental Police, with whom we’ve proudly partnered for over two decades on reptile-related cases across the state.”
Monitor lizards require a special permit from the state to own in Massachusetts. The exception is the spiny-tailed monitor, a small dwarf monitor.
