People long ago figured out that what we put into our bodies makes a big difference. If provided with the right food and nutrients, we can perform at our best and, at times, push beyond our limitations. As a former competitive athlete, I can tell you with all certainty that nutrition affects not only our physical health but also our emotional well-being. After a day of junk food and other poor choices, we feel sluggish, unmotivated and unhappy. Our ability to solve intellectual challenges will become impaired. It is the same for the animals in our care. A pet only has what you, its keeper, give it. If you feed poor-quality food, its health will suffer, as will its emotional state. It is our responsibility as pet owners to give the animals in our care the best nutrition available.

Every year, we run a special diet and supplement buyer’s guide. This guide features some of the top nutritional innovations in the industry. What makes the pet industry different from other industries is that the products presented very often come from companies run by pet lovers. These are folks who have devoted a lot of their passion and time to create food and supplements that they can feed to their own animals, not just those of their customers. Because of this, the desire for a high level of quality is built in. Yes, quality ingredients sometimes cost more, but in my opinion, it is most certainly worth it.
