Snakes of the genus Dasypeltis and the genus Elachistodon are egg eating specialists, having adapted over the years to specialize in eggs. While the genus Elachistodon has only one snake in the genus, the Indian egg-eating snake or Westermann’s snake, the genus Dasypeltis has 18 recognized species. These snake live through much of the African continent and are bird egg eating specialists.
