“Amphibians, which serve many critical roles within our ecosystems, are in the midst of an unprecedented mass extinction event, with most wild populations declining worldwide, Josh’s Frogs said in a statement announcing the grant program. “At the same time, the hobby of keeping pet amphibians has steadily grown in the United States, leading to increased collection of wild amphibians for the pet trade. Founded in 2004, Josh’s Frogs started breeding amphibians to offset demand for their wild-caught counterparts, and quickly became the largest amphibian breeder in the country. The company has since leveraged their success to help conserve wild amphibian populations through several initiatives, including their annual amphibian conservation grant program. To date, this program has awarded over $12,000 in grants to fund amphibian conservation, research and education projects in nine different countries spanning four continents.”
