Vietnamese blue beauty rat snakes are of the family Colubridae and are a semi-arboreal species native to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand.
You can’t stress the importance of keeping your snakes in a secure enclosure, but here we go again. This time, someone in Southern California lost what appears to be a Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake, and the snake apparently, somehow ended up in a man’s crunch. The man called So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal and owner Alex Trejo came out to remove the snake.
“This guy calls me, is pretty frantic, and he’s like, ‘There’s a snake in my couch,'” So-Cal Rattlesnake Removal owner Alex Trejo told KGTV. “I literally lift the cushion and there’s this giant 7-foot Vietnamese blue beauty rat snake (Orthriophis taeniurus callicyanous) just coiled up right behind the cushion. You’d be more lucky to find a Rolex sitting on the ground than a snake like this,” Trejo told KGTV.
Trejo removed the snake, which apparently has a respiratory infection. The owner of the couch said the snake is not his, so Trejo plans to keep the reptile if the owner does not come forward to claim the snake.

Vietnamese blue beauty rat snakes are of the family Colubridae and are a semi-arboreal species native to Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand. It is a subspecies of beauty rat snake (Elaphe taeniura). It is also known as a cave dweller. They feed on rodents such as mice and also are known to eat bats, small birds and bird eggs. They can live to about 20 years and can grow up to 9 feet in length, though most are 4 to 6 feet.
