“Hello!

We currently purchased an African Sideneck turtle. He appears healthy and is eating and swimming just fine but we do not see him basking much at all. I’ve read countless articles online and the majority of them say they do bask and only a few indicate that they are shy baskers and stay under the water more. I don’t know what to think. So we had a floating turtle dock and then I decided to add a more sturdy solid turtle dock out of rocks that are layered that he can easily climb up onto and swim down from but we don’t see him using it. We have all of the required temperatures in regards to the tank, water and basking area correct according to our thermometers. He is very active and always wants to eat and comes to us any time we are near the tank.

Any other suggestions or will this turtle not be much of a basker? I keep worrying about shell rot.

Thanks!
Jina
