A woman who was staying at the Marriott Frenchman’s Cove in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, claims she was bitten on the leg by an iguana while lounging at the pool and is suing the hotel chain in Manhattan federal court, claiming that the hotel “actively attracted wildlife onto said premises . . . by allowing food . . . in a manner that was detectable” to the reptiles, according to a report in the New York Post.
The woman, Lynette Mutschler of Stony Brook, New York, is suing the hotel chain for $250,000, claiming that the alleged lizard bite, which allegedly occurred in July 2013, had become infected.
Green iguanas (Iguana iguana) were once one of the most popular lizards in the hobby, but there wasn’t a whole lot of information on how to care for these reptiles 20+ years ago. Still a lizard for expert keepers, these reptiles get very large and can be feisty. Their bites are apparently very painful and can require stitches.
