Willow's mom told Redbook magazine in 2013 that she had a fear of snakes but relented when her then 7-year-old daughter went into a pet store and wanted to buy the boa constrictor. Pinkett Smith said her daughter and that boa constrictor helped her overcome her fear of snakes.

Celebrities are fairly busy people who are constantly on the go and have little time for others things, such as pets. In the world of reptiles, there are a few celebrities who have kept or attempted to keep reptiles. Justin Bieber had a juvenile salmon boa constrictor that he carried with him on an award show. A few months later, he had it auctioned by one of his favorite charities. Nicolas Cage is an avid reptile keeper, but last year gave up his Asian water monitor to the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest, IL apparently because he was too busy to care for the animal. In 2008, Cage also had to give up two cobras he kept in his home when neighbors complained, and donated his two-headed gopher snake to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans.

The guitar virtuoso Slash also kept large constricting snakes, a nice collection of Colubrids and even a pair of rhinoceros iguanas in the 1990s but gave them up in the 2000s. Slash was very knowledgeable about the species he kept and their husbandry requirements, and was on the cover of REPTILES magazine
