Zoo Med has announced its new turtle and tortoise research facility, which is near completion and is already housing several turtles and tortoises. Zoo Med plans to use the facility to conduct ongoing research on the dietary and nutritional needs and UVB lighting needs of captive aquatic turtles, land turtles and tortoises.

The 2,800-square foot facility, called "Turtle Nirvana," has an environmentally friendly geothermal heating and cooling system and UVB penetrable panels. According to Zoo Med, these features help to mimic a natural environment and maintain ideal temperatures for keeping and breeding many turtle and tortoise species.
