Imagine a pet store that will actually customize an enclosure just for you. That is just one of the many services that Joe Aversa’s Route 4 Aquarium offers. Their custom tank fabrication department will build any size or shape tank or enclosure you require. And if you don’t have time to maintain its care, they will be glad to come and do that for you, too!

Route 4 Aquarium had been in business for nearly 50 years when Aversa took it over in 2011. Since then, he has expanded it to offer a large number of reptiles, including pythons, boas, corn snakes, rat snakes, chameleons, skinks, bearded dragons, several different kinds of geckos and invertebrates. The shop also offers a wide variety of fresh and saltwater fish, corals, birds, small animals and dogs, English bulldogs in particular.
Not only will you find an animal to strike your fancy, you will also find all the supplies needed to take care of your new pet. “We carry a full line of foods and accessories for all of the animals needs,” Alversa says. “Our reptile department also offers a full line of live and frozen foods, including crickets, mice, rats, worms and roaches.”

With a staff full of well-educated workers, it is easy to see why Route 4 Aquarium has become a popular spot to visit. “All of our staff has an extreme adoration for animals in general. We have been told by many that our store has become a destination for them because of the diversity that we offer. As a pet shop owner, I have to say that the best part of my job is to see the joy and satisfaction in my customers’ eyes and all of the progress that the store is making.” REPTILES

Reptile Hobby Advice

My advice to anyone going into any hobby is to make sure that you are willing to dedicate yourself to whatever it is that you are planning on undertaking. When it comes to animals, an extreme commitment must be made. I suggest asking a lot of questions and purchasing a book and reading magazine articles written by experienced handlers of whatever type of animal you plan to purchase.”—Joe Alversa.
