The Hermann’s tortoise is valued at around $520 and the store owner wants in back.
A reptile thief in Toronto, Canada stole a baby Hermann’s tortoise (Testudo hermanni) from All Reptiles in Scarborough and the Toronto Police Department wants anyone who may have information on the suspect in the case, or the tortoise, to give them a call at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
Karen Truong, owner of All Reptiles just wants her tortoise back and wants it to go to a home where it can be properly cared for. Truong released the video footage to the media, which shows the man first purchasing some crickets, then goes back to the enclosure where the tortoise was kept, lifts the lid, grabs the tortoise and then walks out of the store. The man even chatted up the staff while in the store.
The Hermann’s tortoise is valued at around $520, Truong said.
“They are quite expensive because they are hard to get,” she told CityNews. “If he can’t pay for the animal he can’t pay for the equipment,” to care for the reptile.
If you know this man or if you know where the tortoise may be, contact the Toronto Police at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
