Kindest greetings, I am seeking your help regarding boas that have been introduced to Aruba (where they are not native) and pose a significant risk to native wildlife. We are trying to recover the native parakeet and owl on the island, and boas present a clear and present danger at our release sites. Are there any substrates that boas do not like to cross? Or chemical deterrents that dissuade boa use of areas? At this point, we are considering boa-resistant fencing, but do not know the specific fence design that would be most successful. The owl in question nests underground (e.g., Burrowing Owl), and the parakeet nests in tree-based termite mounds (often within easy climb for the boas. Boas there are up to 3 m long, but most are

Any advice on getting bigger cages, my boa is out growing hers and I can’t seem to find any cages big enough for her

I have a 5.5′ female BCC. She’s a very docile and curious boa needless to say a wonderful pet. A few tips for those who have younger boas or those who have boas with “attitude priblems” . Always give your boa 3 days after eating to handle them as this time is needed for the snake to begin digestion and come out of feeding mode. Some advocate feeding outside the enclosure to dissociate the tank from the feeding tub.Not necessary in my opinion. Boas are smart as snakes go and they will learn your scent provided you handle them with enough regularity. I take my boa out for at least 20 minutes daily, with that 3 day post feeding time aside. This will ensure that your boa will remain docile and friendly as they grow into adulthood and reach their maximum size. Young boas should be fed once weekly after they are over 1.5 years old I rec feeding every 10 days to 2 weeks. This will ensure the organs of the snake will grow in proportion to the snakes body size and will ensure a longer lifespan. Keep them warm, fed, and properly housed with plenty of out of tank time. And please research in detail before you buy a snake of any kind.

you should never handle a boa after it has eaten as they are in eating mode and will generally strike all constrictors are like this. So it is recommended to keep snakes in its regular habitat and feed it there so you will not have to move it after feeding. I am a breeder of many different morphs of boa constrictors from normal to motley jungle albino sunglows hypos het just about all you can think of so if you need one for a pet or would like to start breeding you can get started here. If you have a boa and it has got to big and you want to trade it for a baby or just get rid of it I will take it in and pay you a fair price I will also charge you a fair price for a baby. I can also answer any questions you may have if you cannot find the answers in these articles. My email is Ahmadi.Mark@yahoo.com feel free to email any question you may have and I will answer you question daily. I check my email several times a day and I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Mark Ahmadi mobile Al.

Hello, I have a 5 and half foot columbian red tail boa that is having attitude issues. I have only had her for a few months, and the previous owner didnt know anything about her. He had her for 3 years and only fed her once a month. She had been fine with met he first few feedings where i removed her from her enclosure and put her in a tub to feed in until the beginning of this year where I fed her like I have in the past and tried to pick her up after she had sat for awhile to put her back in her tank and she turned and bit me. I had to pull her off of me and get her back in the tub. I washed my wounds and then went back to her, and I tested her by putting my hat in front of her and she tried to strike at it as well. I am not sure what caused this behavior and was told that it could be from mating season or having just fed her. Today I fed her again but couldn’t even get her out of her enclosure because of how aggressive she was being. She ate two live rats and was still hungry. I know I need to get her a bigger home but if she is acting this aggressive, how do i get her from one enclosure to the other safely for the both of us? If someone could email me some helpful tips, i would be grateful before i decide that I need to get rid of her. She has been through three owners as far as I was told, that is including me, and the previous owner has no idea of her origins. My email is donavanortega89@yahoo.com.

My baby female (maybe 3 months) hasn’t eaten since i’ve brought her home a few weeks ago, i’ve tried to feed her 2 times, she’ll show interest but wont strike. My ball python will eat, so the mouse should be warm enough to look appetizing since i warm them up together.

“More people die every year from coconuts falling on their heads that from constrictor snakes, and no cases have been reported of ball pythons killing humans by constriction.
A ball python cant even kill a baby, but I would always have someone supervising the baby if it is touching the snake.
Less than 2 people die every year by constrictor snakes, and most of them are by Burmese and reticulated pythons, there are some cases of Boa constrictor killing humans, but the Boas has to be at least 10 feet
(3 meters) long to cause serious injury.

Please learn the difference between a python and a ball python.

There are more people killed by other means than are killed by snakes. Most deaths by snakes are because of being to far away from any means of medical assistance to be provided for anti-venin to be applied in adequate time and not all snakes are venomous.

Very poor information is being read by many people online and given by people and automatically there is a scare placed on snakes that everyone thinks snakes are evil. Research research research. Snakes are not the problem……. bad information from stupid people is the problem.

According to article, my 12 ft female is anomally, due to her size! We switched, to frozen /thawed rabbits. She was thriving due to change, but after 4 meals,,,she stopped eating altogether. She must be loosing weight, cause she hasn’t eaten a thing in over 3 months. Should I bring her to the vet? She seems perfectly healthier, otherwise. I was also wondering, if the bulbous growth, on the end of her snout, could be the problem with her eating. E-mail me with your recommendations @ never_a_dull_moment822@yahoo.com

I just got an 8 month old male Boa yesterday. He is my very first snake and I just think he is awesome, I named him Azrael. I’ve always thought Boas were such beautiful looking snakes and ive always wanted one. He seems to be so friendly and social, and he really does have a lot of personality. I’m happy to read that he will live for as long as they do and I’m really looking forward to many years together with this magnificent snake.

I have a male Columbian Red Tailed Boa and he is 8′ 3″. His name is Sir Hiss 🙂

To the person that is trying to re-home their red tailed boa…I am an experienced reptile owner that owns a ball python and a Colombian red tail at this time. If you can’t find a new home for your snake and would be willing to drop it off in Alabama on your way to Mexico I would be more than happy to take care of it for you.

I inherited two 8 foot boas as my first snakes. I have had experience with reptiles (turtles) and amphibians (ADFs) before, but these were the first snakes. They’re great. My male is very social and loves new people, while my female is pretty calm and down for anything. They live in seperate 6′ by 2′ enclosures, with heating pads and lamps. They’re really great pets, and I’m also going to recommend yellow bellied sliders and ADFs while I’m here. 😉

I have a Colombian boa, and I’m leaving to Mexico in a couple of weeks so I’m trying to get rid of it by selling it to someone who will be interested in buying it and who will be able to take good care of it. They’re very friendly. If anyone knows where I can take it or sell it please let me know. I live in Santa Rosa California and I honestly don’t know where or who can buy my Colombian boa from me.

My Red tail is the most wonderful snake. I’ve had him for since 1998, so he is about 16yrs old. He was just a tiny worm when I got him. I didn’t want a big snake, I went with a red tail because of their lovely personality. I only feed Nicodemus when he acts hungry. Very easy to tell! He has been on the cover of a newspaper—going to the library for story hours. He just shed and is a little over 7ft. (Wish they came in a miniature variety!). I feed him flash frozen rats that are bred by a herpatoligist guru in Florida. He recently had an abscess tooth. Of course, I discovered it late on a Friday night, and do not have an exotic vet near by. That said, I extracted the tooth and cleaned him up. What a personality! He was so good. I had to repeat this cleaning for about a week. He was better, but I just wanted to make sure it stayed clean. The 2nd night, after I extracted his tooth (!). He was such a champ. He literally sat quietly and opened his mouth for me. He continued to do this for a daily treatment for a week. Also, I took him out of his normal house and put him in an encloser with no substrate because his mouth was a little swollen and he was trying to dig and hide…getting bedding in his mouth. What a great guy! Most people really hate snakes. I’ve had some wild rescues, but this was the first one I ever bought. (I was afraid of snakes and to over come that…well, you know). The injured ones I found in the wild were all released. They are very underrated pets! And yes, at least my guy, a lot of personality for a critter with the brain size of a pea! ❤️

I’ve not had a boa long, maybe 4 months. When she first arrived she was pretty aggressive so i named her nemesis. Shes only young now and has her off days but she is getting much calmer. I put the odd bite down to the fact i need to change the broken heat mat. The rate in which she is taming down i can imagine she will be friendly to everyone all the time in no time.
