I was in Hamburg the other day and saw an adult Mata-Mata that looked as though it weighed at least 25 lbs.

“I have the most social Mata Mata turtle. Everyone who visits my home is awestruck at the attention ‘Omni’ pays to all who visit his tank. He especially likes my grand-daughter. If someone approaches the tank and he is pre-occupied, as soon as he recognizes that something is over there (people), he scoots right over to the area and shows off his water aerobics. As others have purchased turtles after seeing ‘Omni’, they usually call me to ask why their turtle isn’t happy like mine? I’ve had him for 4 years, when I clean the tank he jets over to rub against my arm or hand.
I bought him after my house burnt down, when moving back home my hubby exclaimed, “”No more pets””. I went right out to the pet stores, I found ‘Omni’, brought him home. Hubby wasn’t surprised, I have always had quite a few animals at one time and always took care of my pets first! Believe it or not, my husband brought home most of the pets that graced our home. We are together 40+ years always having a variety of pets. That is where one would find ‘unconditional’ love!

I just saw one for sale on Craigslist and thought I would check them out because the ad said they are ‘rare’. After reading this article I see they are not rare and the supply outweighs the demand. Although they are interesting and quite beautiful, I think I will stick with my Sulcatta tortoise. I’ve had turtles when I was a kid (the little sun turtles I caught in a pond) but keeping the tank clean always seemed impossible! I hope whom ever buys this turtle from Craigslist does their homework because they do grow pretty big and live a long time if taken care of properly.

No. Rodents are not part of their regular diet and the one I had would only eat fish. I have never seen one eat a rodent of any size. Fish are the principle diet.

Can you feed them feeder rodents before breeding?
