Those interested in the position of mayor of Amphibiville must submit an essay detailing why he or she should be mayor.
The Detroit Zoo is accepting applications for mayor of Amphibiville, the zoo's two-acre village that is also home to the National Amphibian Conservation Center. The two year term is open to candidates from 7-12 years in age who live in Michigan. Prospective candidates are required to submit an essay of 100 words or less detailing why he or she should be mayor of Amphibiville. Candidates must submit entries by October 5, 2012 and must include the candidates name, age, address and daytime telephone number. Entries can be submitted via email at PR1@dzs.org or via snail mail. The new mayor will be receive a plaque inscribed with his or her name that will be displayed at the National Amphibian Conservation Center. The new mayor will also receive a certificate acknowledging his or her position as mayor, a plush frog, and a one year family membership to the Detroit Zoo. The outgoing mayor of Amphibiville is Claire Kozal, age 10, who was sworn into office in November 2009.
The village of Amphibiville was opened in the year 2000 and features the state of the art and award winning National Amphibian Conservation Center. It features a variety of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts and caecilians and is also home to the zoo's amphibian conservation and research efforts.
