Robert Irwin is growing into his own man and is looking more and more like his dad, the late Steve Irwin. The young Irwin got a call that a snake had become hung up in some fencing and went to investigate. Robert then walks in behind some foliage and comes out with a fairly large carpet python (Morelia spilota). “He is so chill!” Irwin told the camera operator as he handles the snake with ease. The video was then posted to TikTok, where it has received more than 75,000 likes.

And rescues are nothing new to Robert. Back in May 2022, Robert was out driving inside the Australia Zoo when he happened upon a carpet python (Morelia spilota) on one of the zoo’s roads. Irwin proceeded to get out of his vehicle, propped his cell phone camera on the road so he could record and proceeded to wrangle the large constricting snake while giving some details to the snake’s predicament. The young man is growing up to quite the reptile handler just like his dad.

Snake rescue! This time of year in Australia, carpet pythons are always ending up in man-made environments… I’m so glad to give them a helping hand!

And in 2017, a visitor to the zoo was walking along a path when a carpet python apparently peeked its head out of the bush. The visitor alerted staff who said they would send someone to assist. That someone was Robert, who rolled up to the scene on a scooter and snake bag and gently picked the snake up and placed it inside the bag.
