For those who want to adopt a turtle or tortoise, and live near the Northern California city of Anderson, Tortoise Acres Rescue and Sanctuary has established an adoption center for abandoned and rescued tortoises and turtles.

Katie Hoffman opened the adoption center out of her pet grooming business, Shampoodles, after she closed Tortoise Acres Rescue and Sanctuary to the public in 2016 because it wasn’t American with Disabilities Act compliant, according to the Record Searchlight.
Because Shampoodles is an existing storefront that is ADA-compliant, the adoption center was relocated there. Hoffman told the Record Searchlight that the adoption center, because it has retail-style hours, makes it easier for those who wish to adopt a turtle or tortoise. And it shows.
"We adopted four out in four days," she said.
The more popular species available for adoption include Russian, leopard, and sulcata tortoises, are well as box turtles. The adoption center currently has eight turtles and tortoises up for adoption. Sixty turtles and tortoises are still at the sanctuary.
