Jake “The Snake” Roberts, a legendary professional wrestler from the 1980s, who often came on stage with a snake in a gunny sack and placed it on his vanquished opponents, was admitted to a Las Vegas hospital after collapsing on an airplane destined for The Entertainment Capital of the World.

Roberts was picked up at the airport August 27 by an ambulance and taken to the hospital where he was diagnosed with double pneumonia, according to WrestlingInc.com.

Roberts was flying to Las Vegas to attend a “Freakshow Wrestling” exhibition in the city when he fell ill.

Roberts, 59, was one of the most flashy wrestlers during the heyday of the WWF and was known to bring his Burmese python, Damien, onto the wrestling mat when he defeated an opponent. He would often place the snake on the chests of his defeated opponents and sometimes put the snake around his opponents neck, making it appear that the snake was constricting his opponents.

In addition to Damien, Roberts was reported to also have used an albino Burmese python named Revelations, a reticulated python named Lucifer, and an unnamed cobra that was de-venomized. That snake was reported to have bit Macho Man Randy Savage.
