Donald Schultz admitted guilt in September 2013
Donald Schultz, former host of Animal Planet's "Wild Recon" was sentenced March 24 to two years probation, 200 hours of community service and $9,000 in fines as part of a plea deal for violating the endangered species act. Schultz admitted guilt in federal court for trying to sell two Iranian desert monitor lizards (Varanus griseus), an endangered species, to an undercover federal wildlife agent in July 2010.
Schultz pleaded guilty in September 2013 to the illegal 2010 sale. According to reports, Schultz advertised the lizards on Facebook and an undercover federal wildlife agent answered the ad, negotiating with Schultz on the sale, and then had the lizards shipped to another federal wildlife agent in New York, who took the reptiles into custody. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service began investigating Schultz in 2006 after a package of lizards addressed to Schultz were seized in New York.
