Firefighters with the Osage Beach Fire Protection District were called to assist at a residential house fire February 24 and saved multiple snakes from the residence, according to a press release put out by the fire district.
“The interior crew encountered fire in one bedroom and in the attic space of the kitchen, but were able to contain the fire to those areas. Fire crews successfully rescued multiple snakes from the residence with no harm to the family pets. No firefighters were bitten in the process,” Osage beach Fire Protection wrote on its Facebook page. “Smoke and heat damage were found throughout the structure. No occupants or firefighters were injured during the incident.”
The fire was contained to one bedroom as well as the attic space of the kitchen. heaps of praise for the firefighters abounded on the fire district’s Facebook page.
Said Steve Schnare: “Going into a burning structure in itself is heroic. Walking out with a snake… well… shows you have a little crazy in you too.”
Bobbi Bruce had a different take: “Yikes – Larry would have been right there with you – loved snakes but was afraid of spiders. Job well done Blake & fellow fire fighters.”
And of course there was Steven Snow, who knows all too well: They need to get that thing out of the cold!”

Firefighters have saved numerous pets, including snakes over the years. That is their job, to save lives and put out fires.
