The bearded dragon (Pogona vitticeps) found in a California couple’s Walmart delivery order has been adopted by the couple who found him and turned him into Riverside County Animal Services.

About two weeks ago, Al and Chris Brummett ordered a bicycle from Walmart.com and when the bicycle arrived, they found a bearded dragon in the box. They turned the reptile over to animal services, and two weeks later, without a solid lead on an owner, the Brummett’s adopted the lizard, which they named “Falkor” after the dragon in the 1984 film "The Neverending Story."

Initially the couple was scared of Falkor as they peered into the box.

“At first, it was really horrifying, actually. It was scary, like, ‘What is this!'” Chris Brummet told CBS2 News. “And we got to thinking about it, it’s like, ‘The box was made in China,'” Al, Chris’ husband said.

The bearded dragon is native to Australia, but this one was most likely someone's pet based on the video of the reptile. It probably crawled into the bicycle box after either escaping or being released in a Walmart warehouse.

The decision to adopt the lizard came with a bit of thought and preparation and his enclosure looks first class, complete with a reptile hammock. "We’ve been doing a lot of research, and we built a habitat for him,” Al told CBS2 News.

The Brummett’s purchased a gift for their granddaughter, and in return, they received a gift of a bearded dragon.
